Thank you for the exceedingly kind introduction. I usually say that I aspire to some day be half as good as my dog thinks that I am each and every night when I return home from work. Now, instead, I can aspire to be half as good as you think that I am.

A Proclamation by the President: Patriot Day 2002

On this first observance of Patriot Day, we remember and honor those who perished in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. We will not forget the events of that terrible morning nor will we forget how Americans responded in New York City, at the Pentagon, and in the skies over Pennsylvania -- with heroism and selflessness; with compassion and courage; and with prayer and hope. We will always remember our collective obligation to ensure that justice is done, that freedom prevails, and that the principles upon which our Nation was founded endure.

Remarks by the President on the 12th Anniversary of ADA

Thank you all for coming, and welcome to the White House. We like to call this the people's house. And we're glad you're here. Today we celebrate the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, landmark legislation that opens the door for more than 50 million people living with disabilities -- 50 million Americans.

For 12 years, the ADA has proven that when people are treated with dignity and respect, our entire nation benefits. And the best way to celebrate the progress the ADA has made is to continue and build on that progress.
