In 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed at the White House in front of thousands of people with disabilities, advocates, and friends. It was a beautiful morning when President George H. W. Bush signed into law the bill that would provide Americans with disabilities the same rights as the non-disabled. We all remember those words of President George H. W. Bush when he said, "Let the shameful wall of exclusion finally come tumbling down."

Joyce welcomes The Honorable Tony Coelho, author of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to the show.  Mr. Coelho will discuss the efforts to pass the ADA leading up to July 26, 1990 and his tireless work on both the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 and the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).  CRPD is an international human rights treaty intended to protect the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

The Gertrude Labowitz Lifetime Achievement Award is given each year to an individual or organization in recognition of their outstanding record of enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities.
