Joyce welcomes Patricia A. Shiu, director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs at the U.S. Department of Labor. She leads a staff of nearly 800 men and women around the country who are dedicated to protecting workers, promoting diversity and enforcing the law.  Over the years, OFCCP’s authority has been expanded by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974.

Joyce’s honored guest is Chai Feldblum

Joyce’s honored guest is Chai Feldblum, commissioner of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) since September 15, 2010. Ms. Feldblum will discuss the mission of the EEOC, the progress of federal hiring successes of people with disabilities and other initiatives such as Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, requiring federal contractors to take affirmative action to include people with disabilities within their workforce.

PITTSBURGH, PA – Bender Consulting Services, Inc. received the 2013 Justice for All (JFA) Corporate Award, sponsored by the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) in a ceremony at the Senate Hart Office Building in Washington, DC on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.  The AAPD is the nation's largest cross disability membership organization and promotes equal opportunity, economic power, independent living, and political participation for people with disabilities.

As we celebrate National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Joyce has two honored guests.  Democratic Strategist and friend of President Obama, Valerie Jarrett, then, the Honorable Tony Coelho, author of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and former California congressman is on the show.  Ms. Jarrett and Mr. Coelho will discuss the Obama Administration’s continued commitment to encourage people with disabilities to be engaged in this campaign, and vote, as well as the Obama Administration’s commitment to hiring people with disabilities in the federal government.

Ms. Pat Shiu on Disability Matters

Pat Shiu, director of the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP), in the U.S. Department of Labor is Joyce’s guest.  She will discuss the new proposed rule from the OFCCP, requiring federal contractors and subcontractors to set a hiring goal of having 7 percent of their workforce be people with disabilities.  The proposed rule would represent significant progress in the enforcement of Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, requiring federal contractors and subcontractors to employ people with disabilities.
