THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. Please, everybody be seated. Thank you. First of all, how about my Secretary of State? (Applause.) Give it up for Senator Hillary Clinton. She is doing an unbelievable job. She's traveling all around the world delivering a message that America is back and ready to lead. And everywhere she goes she is representing us with grace and strength and we are very fortunate to have her.

CROWLEY: Among those keeping a close eye on the legal debate in the Schiavo case are people who work to protect the rights of the disabled. Joining me to share his perspective is Andy Imparato, the president and CEO of the American Association of People with Disabilities. Thank you so much for being her here. What -- why do people with disabilities and those who represent them feel so strongly about this case? What's at the heart of it?

One year ago, my dear friend Tony Coelho issued the “Coelho Challenge,” urging the disability community to only support Presidential candidates who adopt a five-point agenda for dismantling the barriers to work for people with disabilities.

As Tony stated then, and as those of us here today recognize: “Work provides discipline and structure to our lives. It is a source of identity and social acceptance. . . Work makes sustaining life and building a material existence vastly easier.”

Thank you for the exceedingly kind introduction. I usually say that I aspire to some day be half as good as my dog thinks that I am each and every night when I return home from work. Now, instead, I can aspire to be half as good as you think that I am.
