Where in the World
is Paul Julian??

Paul Julian is a Bender Consulting Services employee who participates yearly in the Paralyzed Veterans of America Bass Fishing Tournament.

Paul Julian has been a dedicated employee of Bender Consulting Services, Inc. since 1996. Since 2001 Paul, an amputee, has represented Bender Consulting at various fishing tournaments through the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) Sports and Recreation Program to bring awareness to the community that people with disabilities can compete and win in business and in sports.

The Paralyzed Veterans of America Bass Tour consists of five two-day tournaments, which are held at various locations around the country. Each tournament consists of an Open/Team Competition for those anglers who wish to fish from a boat and a Bank Competition for those who prefer to fish from shore. Disabled anglers in the Open/Team Competition are paired with able-bodied boat partners for the two day event. On day one, only the disabled anglers compete for a new Ranger, Yamaha, Minn Kota boat package. On day two, the paired anglers compete as a team for cash prizes. The boat partners serve as coaches and help find fishing locations and choose baits. Disabled anglers in the Bank Competition are paired with volunteers who assist them in whatever they cannot do themselves while fishing. Although only the anglers with disabilities fish in the Open Competition, awards and prizes are given to both anglers and boat partners. Prizes are awarded based on the total weight of the ten heaviest fish each day, for two days.

Paul has qualified for every championship since it's inception in 2001. At the Southeastern PVA Bass Tournament on Clarks Hill Lake in Appling, GA March 16-18, 2006, Paul placed fourth and at the Lone Star/Texas PVA Bass Tournament that was held on Lake Sam Rayburn in Jasper, TX April 7-9, 2006, Paul placed thirteenth. and the Land of Lincoln PVA Bass Tournament that was held on Rend Lake, IL on May 20, 2006, Paul placed 23rd.

In order to introduce people with disabilities to recreational and competitive sport of bass fishing, the PVA Sports and Recreation Program founded the PVA Bass Tour. Currently, the Tour has five tournaments-March, April, May, July and September 2007. The success of the Tour has drawn the attention of the Bass Anglers Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.), who now officially sanctions the Tour events.

Each tournament consists of an Open/Team Competition for those who wish to fish from a boat and a Bank Competition for those who prefer to fish from shore. Disabled anglers in the Open/Team Competition are paired with able-bodied boat partners and fish as a team on one day. On the other day, only the anglers with disabilities compete. The boat partners serve as coaches and help in finding fishing locations and choosing baits. Although only the anglers with disabilities are fishing on in the Open Competition, the boat partners whose anglers place in the top ten also win. Awards and prizes are given to both anglers and boat partners. Disabled anglers in the Bank Competition are paired with volunteers who assist them in whatever they cannot do themselves while fishing. Prizes are awarded based on the total weight of the ten heaviest fish each day, for two days. The Tour has become one of the most popular sporting events that PVA sponsors.
